Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Intense

Sulwhasoo, one of the top beauty names in South Korea, launched their Perfecting Cushion Intense earlier this year / late last year, and here’s my kind of way overdue review of this product!

I’ve never tried Sulwhasoo before, so this was a brand new experience for me. Everything about this product, from its outer packaging, to the design of the compact, had a very understated opulence to it, and just screamed luxury (in CAPS). Priced at SGD$105 for a full compact and a 15g refill, Sulwhasoo is markedly the most expensive cushion in the market. But does it weigh up to the expectations they’ve set for themselves? That’s what we’re about to find out.

Unboxing the Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Intense

Asides from being just a cushion foundation, the Perfecting Cushion Intense is actually an all-in-one makeup cum skincare product with anti-aging properties. So this product doesn’t just cover your flaws, even out your skin tone for a healthy looking complexion, no, nah uh, it also works as a skincare while it sits on your skin. Talk about fashion and function!

There are three main ingredients that the Perfecting Cushion Intense contains, that works to give your face a brighter, firmer look, and they are; red pine extract, which brings out your skins own natural radiance for firmer looking skin, plum blossom extract, which anti oxidizing properties helps to rejuvenate the skin, and lastly, their very own radiance pearl powder complex which works to give your skin a bright, translucent glow.

The product is available in 7 different shades, something pretty rare and diverse for a k-beauty brand, and these shades were specially designed for Asian skin tones, to neutralize dullness and give a natural pink glow to the skin.

An additional 15g Refill pack sits under the main cushion casing

The cushion is housed in a luxurious mahogany-esque compact casing, with the brand name embossed in gold on the glossy lid, a gold rim, and a matte bronze bottom.

The compact opens up to reveal a rather sizable mirror which fills the entirety of the lid’s underside.

One notable thing about the cushion, is the air puff that is provided. It does not feel like the generic air puff that comes along with other cushions; it has a slightly stiffer feel to it, with a suede like feel to the top, and its brown shade actually makes me a lot less anxious about using it because for reasons beyond my own comprehension, I really hate to stain the top of my puffs.

Because of its (lack of) porosity, the puff does seem to be product-saving as it does not hold onto or absorb any excess product. (side note: I’m gonna be super pissed if it did because that stuff is not cheap!) The bottom of the Ultrafine Fiber Brush Puff is actually made up of little tiny microfibers which makes it super easy to blend the foundation over wrinkles into an even finish for a flawless complexion.

Before and After Application – Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Intense

With all the good things about this product, and while I really like the product a lot for how it performs, at its SGD$105 price tag, my pocket is telling me that I won’t be able to afford purchasing this on a regular basis, and I’d probably save this for use on really special dates and occasions only, but it is a worthy splurge if you’re someone who’s really into anti-aging skin care and makeup.

Price: SGD$105 for 30g (15g with a compact with a 15g refill)

 How to use

Apply a moderate amount onto the puff and gently tap the entire face.
For extra coverage, apply more on the troubled areas for a perfect skin complexion.

Embedded with micro fibers, Sulwhasoo’s unique micro brush puff has a brushing effect that gently and evenly provides coverage for wrinkles and curved areas, leaving a natural skin tone.

Suggested usage

Begin by gently sweeping over the nose and around the sides to cover your pores. Then gently spread with gentle tapping motions starting from the central part of your face outwards.
